How can we transform a kitchen from a block of flats into a design catalog kitchen?
We present a new kitchen design project designed for a standard apartment in a block of flats. The project had a number of conditionings – the kitchen space is common with the entrance hall, and the only window available is quite small, so lighting the space was a challenge.
We started with the development of a multifunctional space – the island with a snack table – to bring people together around a central unit, used for kitchen work, storage, and dining.
We obtained extra space, light, and balance using a round mirror, illuminated on the perimeter, which also reflects the lighting fixtures above the table, in order to create a type of false window. This detail brings depth to a small space, and the console that masks the radiator allows heat to be released and can be used as a shelf.
A separator made of metal slices delimits the hall from the kitchen space.
For the tactile joy of the hosts, we used only materials with sensitive surfaces: micro cement, natural wood, and ceramic countertops with different textures.
The kitchen design concept is defined by a slightly Japanese mood, which brings forth the balance and essentiality of the materials, discreetly underlined with refined technological details.
